The KCAD Clay Collective (KCC) was commissioned by Thresholds, a non-profit social-service agency, to facilitate a tile project with its residents. The project, a series of framed handmade tiles, celebrates creativity and social acceptance. Members of the KCC donated time to help Thresholds residents make and decorate the tiles. The tiles were then fired by KCC members at KCAD. The framed tiles were displayed in an exhibition titled Collective Expressions at Spiral Gallery, Grand Rapids, MI as part of the DisArts (Disabilities in the Arts) Conference, April 2015.
As faculty advisor to the KCC I highly encourage this type of activity and am active in fundraising, proposal writing, and planning. I founded the group in 2009 to embolden its members to be pro-active in the pursuit of experiences that are relevant to their creative trajectories.
