Casey is an MFA candidate in Drawing with an emphasis in ceramics and works with me on an independent study basis. Casey was introduced to KCAD as a result of my interest in requirement upon taking a course that I taught at Ox-BowSchool of Art. She has been awarded a full tuition scholarship to pursue this unique degree in Drawing and recently joined me at Penland School of Crafts as a teaching assistant for a course that I taught this past summer 2016.
During an independent study course Gabriela produced a series of ceramic vessels connected to her thesis installation entitled, The Culture Preserve. The objects were based upon historic pottery forms and were adorned with images that referenced progress and technology. These works were displayed with mixed-media tapestries that delt with the same subject matter. To help Gabriela complete her degree and be able to participate in the MFA Thesis exhibition, I arranged a private donation to pay for her final class at KCAD.
